What is A Wireless Baby Monitor?

What is A Wireless Baby MonitorAre you wondering what a wireless baby monitor really is?

If yes, you’re not alone in this. I’ve come across many more parents, especially the new moms, asking the same question on many parenting forums on the internet.

I’ve, therefore, decided to craft this quick post to help enlighten you on what does wireless baby monitor mean and how it works.

What’s a wireless baby monitor?

A wireless baby monitor refers to any baby monitoring device that’s operated using wireless technology. By the term wireless technology, I mean the baby monitor transmits audio and video signals via the internet (wifi), radio frequency, Bluetooth, FSSH technology (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum), or DECC (Digital Enhanced Cordless Communications).

How Does a Wireless Baby Monitor Work?

To understand how a wireless baby monitor works, we’ll have to look at the different wireless technologies used with these devices.

And that means we’ll need to categorize the wireless baby monitors into several groups, depending on the type of technology used to operate them.

These categories include:

  • Wifi baby monitors: baby monitors that fall under this category use your home wifi connection to be able to send you audio and video signals of your baby. Unfortunately, these monitors have recently become highly vulnerable to hacking, so you might want to rethink your decision of buying wifi operated monitor.
  • Digital baby monitors: also referred to as non-wifi baby monitors, devices under this category are operated using a special technology known as FSSH or DECC (as mentioned above). Models that operate using 2.4GHz FSSH technology are the most secure device you can find on the market right now. This is based on the fact that FSSH technology randomly changes the transmission frequency, making it really hard for the hackers to track. Keep in mind that Bluetooth operated models also fall under this category.
  • Analog baby monitors: then we have the analog monitors that use the radio frequency technology to transmit data, hence the term analog. Just like the wifi operated devices, these analog models are also easily hackable. But the good thing about these devices is that they produce low radio emissions, making them 100% safe for your baby.

Bottom line

That’s it! Now you know exactly what a wireless baby monitor is and how it works.

Just a quick recap, a wireless baby monitor is one that uses wireless technology to send you audio and video data, helping you keep a watch over your baby.

Remember that out of all the wireless models, the digital baby monitors (operate using FSSH wireless technology) are the most secure. They’re way harder to hack compared to the analog and wifi monitors.
